DraftSeason: What is your biggest personal goal on the field entering your Senior year at Houston?
Joey Mbu: My biggest personal goal is to be one of the top 3 DT’s in the nation. To do that, I have to be relentless on every play.
DraftSeason: What do you feel is your greatest strength and weakness as a defensive lineman?
Joey Mbu: Greatest Stength: I think my greatest strength is my footwork. I played soccer when I was REALLY young! I’m just going to assume the footwork stayed with me and is still helping me today.
Weakness: I need to work on my double team technique more.
DraftSeason: Best offensive lineman you have had the chance to play against during your college career?
Joey Mbu: The best offensive lineman I’ve had a chance to play against was Xavier Su’a-filo. The guy was a monster.
DraftSeason: You are no stranger to taking on double teams and freeing things up for fellow Cougar defenders, something tells me a bit of trash talking goes on during those battles, would you consider yourself a decent trash talker?
Joey Mbu: Haha it’s really dirty. That’s the cleanest way I can put it. There’s a lot of personal attacks in there. In all honesty, I would rate my trash talk game a 6/10.
DraftSeason: Best and worst thing about being a big guy in the middle of the defense?
Joey Mbu: The best thing is that you’re not EXPECTED to do much running. Haha. However, I like running around. The worst thing is the high levels of impact.
DraftSeason: Best defensive player currently playing in the NFL?
Joey Mbu: Gotta give it to Richard Sherman.
DraftSeason: Your teammates really gravitate to you and you are a leader on and off the field, could you see yourself as a coach when your playing days are done?
Joey Mbu: I could definitely see myself as a coach. I’m learning from Coach Logo everyday. Both on and off the field.
DraftSeason: Using 1 word, how would you describe your style of play?
Joey Mbu: Diligent.
