April 24
DraftSeason,
I believe Brad Childress's days are numbered, and the Vikings need to get a competitive team together NOW. The Vikings "went to Jared" and gave their 1st round pick for it. Do you forsee them trading away any other picks or other players to get back into the 1st round in order to get better right away!? If so what position should they draft to accomplish this?
Josh Williamson - St. Paul, MN

Josh,
No, I don't see them trading back into the first round at all. Spielman and company are more apt to trade down in the 2nd and get more picks then to move back into the first and lose more. The position they should be targeting in round 2 is offensive tackle, and they'll hope one of the following will be available: Carl Nicks, Duane Brown, or Anthony Collins. They may also be tempted to pull the trigger on a tight end like Fred Davis or Dustin Keller if they slide, or may look at a versatile defensive back like Reggie Smith.

DraftSeason,
Was Jake Long the right choice for the Dolphins?
Moe W. - Florida

Moe W.,
Absolutely. Long gives them a bonafide option at left tackle and can become a cornerstone for the Dolphins for years to come. You now look at the Dolphins offensive line - Jake Long, Justin Smiley, Samson Satele, and Vernon Carey, make up a pretty solid core. With this pick and the signing of Smiley this line has gone from the outhouse to the penthouse, and it will do wonders for young John Beck's development and will be able to open gaping holes for Ronnie Brown and company.

DraftSeason,
Any chance the Vikings can dump McKinnie on the Chiefs for Allen and keep the 1st round pick for an OT? Or have I had too many Miller Lites?
Bull - Apple Valley, MN

Bull,
I don't think McKinnie will be enough to replace the first rounder. He would most likely be the equivalent of a 2nd round pick. And please leave the shock collar at home this year.

DraftSeason,
When do you see Philip Merling coming off the board?
Derrick - Juneau, Alaska

Derrick,
Merling is definitely a wild card in this draft, since he hasn't been able to workout for teams because of his sports hernia. The latest I see him going is 21 to the Redskins. If he shows he is healed during his workout this Thursday, then I think he shoots back up to that 9-15 range where he was being looked at earlier in the draftseason.

DraftSeason,
If it's your pick and time runs out what happens?
Mike - Phoenix, AZ

Mike,
What happens is that the next team goes on the clock and the team that passed can wait and turn their pick in whenever they are ready. This happened in the 2003 Draft when the Vikings let the clock run out and then Jacksonville immediately got their card in and took Leftwich and then the Panthers immediately got their card in and took Jordan Gross, and right after that the Vikings finally put their card in and got Kevin Williams.

DraftSeason,
The Detroit Lions are thinking of taking Jerod Mayo with their 15th pick. Who do you think will be the best pure pash rushers in round 2 ala Osi Umeniorya? (Calais Cambell, Lawernce Jackson, Jason Jones) And who is the sleeper pass rusher the entire draft?
Eric Adams - Ann Arbor, MI

Eric,
As far as Mayo is concerned, just remember you can't believe anything you hear this time of year. Mayo may very well be a smokescreen by the Lions. I think the best pure pass rusher who could be available in round 2, especially after this news about his heart condition, is Quentin Groves, infact he could be the best pure pass rusher in the entire draft. Other 2nd round pass rushers I like are the guys you mentioned, plus Cliff Avril and Darrell Robertson. The biggest pass rushing sleeper is definitely Brian Johnston from Gardener Webb. The kid had freakish workout numbers where he ran a 4.6 forty, had a 35 inch vertical, and also ran a 4.18 short shuttle. He could come off the board as soon as round 3.

April 11
DraftSeason,
What team do you think will have the best draft this year?
Quincy - Louisville, Kentucky

Quincy,
I think the team that has the best chance to really have a great draft is the Atlanta Falcons. They have 4 picks in the top 50 and if they hit on these picks they can improve their team greatly and could have a quick turn around in a mediocre division. I also think the Dolphins will have a solid draft with Parcells in charge, and I have to throw Dallas in there as well, since they have two first rounders.

DraftSeason,
Which pick would be better for the Saints, D.R.C, Keith Rivers, Leodis Mckelvin,or Mike Jenkins. I think Aqib Talib eliminated himself as a top 10 pick so what do you think?
Travis - Mississippi

Travis,
First of all, I agree with you on Talib, I had him ranked below the 3 CBs you mentioned before his marijuana situation, and now I have him ranked even lower. This is a very tough question to answer. In a very close call I'm going to say the Saints go with a corner. Their pass defense is always a problem, and it's long overdue that they use a first round pick there. Of the guys you mentioned I think one of them will be off the board so I'm going to take off McKelvin. That leaves us with Rodgers Cromarite and Jenkins. Now there is some buzz out of New Orleans that they like Jenkins. Since you can't beleive anything you hear this time of year, that means the pick will be Rodgers Cromarite who would be a great fit. Really as a Saints fan, you should be happy with whoever they grab, as long as it's a defensive player.

April 6
DraftSeason,
Who do you think the Detroit Lions are going to draft this year? (Rashard Mendenhall, Derrick Harvey, or Chris Williams)?
John - Detroit, MI

John,
The Lions are a real wild card this year as all three of those picks would fill huge needs for them. I really think they are going to go with Mendenhall if he's available. They want to get their ground game up and running but Tatum Bell and Brian Calhoun aren't the tough physical backs coach Rod Marinelli would like to have. Mendenhall is quick and shifty, but runs angry and can be physical as well. They passed on Peterson last year, and they won't make the same mistake this year by passing on Mendenhall.

DraftSeason,
Is Will Arnold G, LSU healthy? And what's up with Jason Shirley? Will he get drafted with all of his problems? Thanks, I really like your site.
Skinadeer - Kansas City, MO

Skinadeer,
I really like Will Arnold. He is a big mean nasty blocker when he's healthy. Which is never. He missed most of the last two seasons due to knee injuries, and that will most likely cost him a spot in this draft, as teams will wonder if he'll ever be able to recover. As for Shirley, character is going to be a major concern to teams as he was suspended 3 times by Fresno St. in 2007, but he is huge and talented. The Broncos gave up a 3rd round pick this year to move up in last year's draft and take the highly troubled Marcus Thomas, which shows that character isn't everything to some teams. So I'd expect some team to use a late round pick on Shirley and hope it pays off for them.

DraftSeason,
My falcons have 4 picks in the top 50 selections. Who do you see us taking at those spots?
Bernard - Dunwoody, Georgia

Bernard,
This is a crucial draft for the Falcons as they can really improve their team quickly if they hit on their first 4 picks. I used to think they were going to go with Ryan at no. 3 but now think it's going to be Glenn Dorsey. With their first pick in the second I think they'll look at a quarterback like Flacco, Henne, or Brohm, and with pick no. 38 they should bolster their offensive line with a Sam Baker or Gosder Cherilus, then with their last second rounder (No. 49) they should look at a corner or safety and some guys that come to mind would be Antoine Cason, Tracy Porter, Reggie Smith, Tyrell Johnson and DaJuan Morgan.

March 26
DraftSeason,
The Pats learned a lesson against the Giants, and that is a great pass rush can make a poor to ordinary secondary look pretty good. One player added to their front seven is all they need. The question is-who is it and will he be available? You guys are too cool, Tom
Tom Williams - Vernon, CT

Tom,
Always good to hear from you. The obvious pick for the Pats there would be Vernon Gholston, but it's a pretty slim chance that he'll still be on the board. If he's gone they could trade down with the Bengals at nine and take Derrick Harvey. If they traded down even farther, another good fit would be Auburn's DE/OLB Quentin Groves. He is one of the best pure pass rushers in the draft and could start from day 1 for the Pats.
