Carlton Powell
College : Virginia Tech
Position: Defensive Tackle

Bio: Powell is a multi dimensional defensive tackle who can stuff the run and also pressure the quarterback. He has a great motor and gives it his all on every snap of the ball. Powell also has a great work ethic and is always striving to get better.

DraftSeason: Carlton, how special was this year for you and your teammates, after the tragedy that occurred at Virginia Tech last Spring?
Carlton: It was definitely a monumental season, real special, coming back from something so devastating, and coming out and winning the ACC championship for the fans. It helped to kind of heal the community a little bit.

DraftSeason: What are some things that separate you from some of the other defensive tackles in this year’s draft class?
Carlton: The number one thing is my drive to succeed. I know there’s always room to get better and always room to improve, and I plan to maximize my potential.

DraftSeason: Would you classify yourself as more of a run stopping defensive tackle, or will you be on the field on passing downs?
Carlton: I’ll be on the field during all downs. I can stop the run and rush the passer just as well.

DraftSeason: Who was your favorite NFL team/player growing up?
Carlton: That would be Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers.

DraftSeason: What are some things you enjoy doing when you aren’t dominating offensive linemen on the football field?
Carlton: I enjoy having some quiet time…reading books, reading the Bible, relaxing, watching TV/movies…nothing real special.

DraftSeason: Who was the best player you ever battled against in your time as a Hokie?
Carlton: I had my hands full with Brandon Albert, from the University of Virginia. It was a back and forth battle…I’d get him some of the time, and he’d get me some of the time.

DraftSeason: What will the team that drafts Carlton Powell be getting?
Carlton: A tenacious run-stopper and pass-rusher, and a relentless go-getter.

DraftSeason: Finally, when it is all said and done, and its time for you to hang up the helmet for good, how do you want to be remembered?
Carlton: As a guy who did more than just play football…Without the helmet on, a guy who gives back to the community and is a role model for young kids.
