Plan of Attack for the 2010 NFL Draft: Philadelphia Eagles

Starting with the Saints all the way down to the Rams with the first pick, Draftseason will be taking an in depth look at each team.  We’ll analyze their needs, track free agent gains and losses, and then figure out a plan of attack the team will take for the first three rounds of the draft.  Keep checking back as new teams will be added daily, and teams will be updated as new free agents are signed or lost.

Round 2: S Chad Jones, S Nate Allen, OT Rodger Saffold, G Mike Johnson, G John Asamoah, OLB Navorro Bowman, OLB Thaddeus Gibson, OLB Daryl Washington
Round 3:  S Larry Asante, S Reshad Jones, S Morgan Burnett, G John Jerry, OL Zane Beadles, OT Jared Veldheer, OLB Koa Misi, OLB O’Brien Schofield, OLB Jason Worilds

Plan of Attack:  The Eagles are a hard team to predict because they often move around on Draft Day.  They also love to draft offensive and defensive lineman regardless if they have bigger needs in other areas.  That being said, in round 1 they will likely be choosing between a safety or an offensive lineman.  If they go safety Taylor Mays may be the best fit.   Last season, the Eagles defense  missed the physicality that Brian Dawkins provided for so many years.  Mays can be that enforcer they want and will make receivers think  twice about going over the middle.  If they don’t go with a safety they may target an offensive lineman.   The two best on the board could be Maurkice Pouncey out of Florida who can play guard or center, or Charles Brown from USC.  Both  would provide quality depth and would be looked at as long term fixes.

In round 2 the Eagles will likely grab their outside linebacker.   Navorro Bowman would be a nice pick if he’s on the board.  Bowman is a little undersized but was extremely productive in college and can shut down the run.  He does have some character concerns and that could make the Eagles look at either Daryl Washington or maybe even Ohio St.’s Thaddeus Gibson.

In round 3 the Eagles should look to fill the need they didn’t address in round 1.  If they take  Mays in the first round then they will look for offensive line help here.  A guy who might catch their eye would be Zane Beadles from Utah.  Beadles is more than just a cool name.  He is a versatile lineman who could play guard or tackle for the Eagles.  If they take an offensive lineman in round 1, then they could take a safety here in the third.  Some names on the board would be Morgan Burnett  a big physical safety out of Georgia Tech, or Larry Asante out of Nebraska.  Asante is a solid all around player who would fit in nicely in the Eagles defensive scheme.
