Starting with the Saints all the way down to the Rams with the first pick, Draftseason will be taking an in depth look at each team. We’ll analyze their needs, track free agent gains and losses, and then figure out a plan of attack the team will take for the first three rounds of the draft. Keep checking back as new teams will be added daily, and teams will be updated as new free agents are signed or lost.
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
Team Needs: Running Back, Nose Tackle, Defensive End, Right Tackle for a closer look click this http://www.draftseason.com/2010-nfl-draft-team-needs/san-diego-chargers-nfl-draft-team-needs/
Free Agent Signings: RB Marcus Mason, CB Donald Strickland, CB Nathan Vasher
Free Agent Losses: TE Brandon Manumaluena, WR Kassim Osgood, NT Jamal Williams, RB LaDanian Tomlinson
Potential Draft Targets:
Round 1: RB Ryan Mathews, RB Jahvid Best, NT Terrence Cody, OT Charles Brown, DE Jared Odrick
Round 2: RB Jonathan Dwyer, RB Toby Gerhart, NT Cam Thomas, DE Tyson Alualu, OT Rodger Saffold, OT Selvish Capers
Round 3: OL Zane Beadles, OT Jared Veldheer, OT Kyle Calloway, DE Brandon Lang, RB LaGarrette Blount, RB Ben Tate
Plan of Attack: In round 1 the Chargers will have to choose wheter they want to find their replacement for Jamal Williams at nose tackle or go with a running back of the future. If they decide to go with a nose tackle then Terrence Cody would be their man. He looked terribly out of shape at the Senior Bowl but has since lost 22 pounds and that weight control has impressed teams. He is a terrifc run stuffer and would be a very solid replacement for Williams. If they go for a RB at pick 28 Ryan Mathews should be the target. He is the most complete back in the draft. He is a big guy with good speed, catches the ball well, and is great in pass protection.
If the Chargers go with Cody in the first round then they are likely going to get their RB in round 2. Sproles is likely to remain on the team after the first round tender they put on him so they’ll look for a more physical back to pair with him. There is a slim chance Jonathan Dwyer falls to them and there seems to be a mutual love affair going on between him and the team. If Dwyer is gone they could go with Toby Gerhart. He is a very physical runner with suprisingly good speed and would make a nice tandem with Sproles. If they take Mathews in round 1, the Chargers will look for help on their defensive line in round 2. Cam Thomas is another nose tackle prospect but he may be gone, if he is they could look at Tyson Alualu. Alualu could play defensive end in their 3-4 and even slide over to the middle in certain situations.
In round 3 the Chargers should look for help on the right side of their offensive line. It may come in the form of small school standout Jared Veldheer. Veldheer is a 6’8 giant who has surprisingly quick feet and good power. It may take him awhile to adjust to some tougher competition, but if he lives up to his potential, San Diego will have solved their issue at right tackle for the next decade. One other fact, Veldheer played college ball at Hillsdale and their team name is…you guessed it..the Chargers.

Get terrence cody in the first round then get toby gerheart
They will take Cody or another DT in the 1st and Matthews or Tate, dwyer in 2 nd… Cb in 3rd and another rb in the 4th. Count it
A few thoughts…….get quality guys….no head cases….let them go to Cincy or Oakland….be wary of guys with a questionable work ethic…..NFL backs need speed AND power..and more speed……did I mention speed??.and lastly, Bill Parcells would build his line first …you can get a back in the later rounds…..
Good work ! Keep us posting, you are good writer.
